Updated Family Directories

the eleven kids

Why is it that somethings never really leave your thoughts while somethings never come to mind? Granny is always in my thoughts, it has been 7 long hard months since we lasted touched her soft delicate skin. Her skin was always so soft to the touch and she always smelled so good. She smelled like Granny. I had her on mind alot today due to the fact that Whitney and I just finished putting all the new family directories together for the reunion. As I was looking at one of the copies it brought back the thought that Granny would not be able to see the small print. When the last directory was made, Granny told me that she wish she could see the print. I took my copy and enlarged it and put it in a binder. She was so pleased that she would be able to sit and look over the copy and see it. We all did things that would make Granny’s life easier for her. Elsie would organize her meds not to mention making unlimited trips to Little Rock with her, Mother and Ann would clean her house and wash her clothes, Edith was always cooking and bringing her a plate. Paula called Granny every Friday to discuss the girls and Paula’s latest recipe that she tired. Jerry called Granny every Sunday morning, Granny would always ask him how was the weather in Memphis. (He said that we would check before he called her) Whitney called Granny everyday just to check on her. I was always the one to fix Granny’s tv when she some how would push the buttons to cause the closed caption to appear.  Pete was so good to carry Granny cinnamon rolls from Old Abe’s Feed House, she said that he brought her enough for a week at the time and he would keep her answering machine in working order. JW would bring Granny a roll of quaters for the washer/dryer when he stopped by for a visit. Everyone – all of her family, not just the ones here - always done for Granny. The cards, phone calls, and visits meant the world to Granny.

joined for life

Paula Netherland on November 19th, 2008

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life – to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories.  ~George Eliot

who’s teaching who?

Paula Netherland on November 18th, 2008

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.

if only

Paula Netherland on November 17th, 2008

I’ve been posting Whitney’s quotes for her, while she’s out of town.  I posted the last one yesterday, so that means I’m on my own for today’s quote.

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice.  ~Meister Eckhart
