Yay, Yay, Yay!!!
I’m coming to Crossett!!! I’m so excited! Could you tell?
As of right now, I won’t be there for very long, and I won’t be able to come to Rachel’s shower on Saturday. But I’m working on arranging it so that I can stay for the shower. Until that happens, I’m only going to be in Crossett for about 24 hours. We’re flying in on Thursday and then leaving for Searcy on Friday. I don’t know when we’ll get there or when we’ll leave though. I’m guessing that I’ll actually physically be in Crossett between lunch time on Thursday and Friday.
In that amount of time I’m hoping to see as many people as possible and also squeeze in one interview. I don’t know who I’ll be interviewing quite yet. I’ve ruled out Aunt Elsie because she’s going to be busy with shower stuff. If you’re interested in me coming and interviewing you, then please let me know so that we can work something out. If this is a good time for you, then I’d love to come visit with you! If no one steps up then I’ll just wait and do my interviews later, but I’m a little anxious to get started. Plus, it would work out great because then I have almost a whole month to work out how I’m going to write it out. And you’d be the very first interviewee. My mom says that I need to go with no expectations and just see what happens, that way I don’t get disappointed. I should probably listen to her, because she usually winds up being right.
I don’t know exactly what I’m trying to say. I’m just so anxious to get started on this project! At the same time I’m super nervous about it all. I don’t know that I’m going to be able to do it. And I’m afraid that it’s not going to turn out right, that y’all will be disappointed with it, that it won’t be able to express properly what I want it to, and that I’ll let the whole family down in general. I don’t know, I’m probably just stressing over nothing. I think that’s all for now. Let me know if you’re interested in being interviewed!

I know I’m a little behind everyone else on posting my monthly column, but better late than never. It took me awhile to figure out what to write about. I still don’t know that I’ll do the story justice, but I’ll do my best. I hope that as time goes on I’ll get better at finding good stories and narrating them properly. But, ready or not, here it goes:
I was talking to Aunt Sue on the phone the other day and just listening to her tell me some stories from her childhood. She told me a story about Aunt Edith and one about Uncle Donnie. I expressed to her my difficulty in choosing a story to write about on the Martin Box. All at once she exclaimed, “Oh, I have a good one about Uncle Donnie!”. I listened carefully and, at the end, agreed that it was perfect for my very first column.
She recalled that one summer Uncle Donnie came home sporting a new do. He had gotten so hot, that he decided to give himself a little hair cut. His hair was already cut short, so he couldn’t cut it very well. Instead he decided to trim his eye lashes a bit. “And he had such beautiful, long eye lashes!”, Aunt Sue recalled. When they asked him what had possessed him to do such a thing, he simply replied that he’d been hot.
I found this pretty funny. I don’t know if anyone else will or not. What I want to know is, how do you cut your eye lashes? Think about it, that must be pretty hard to do. If anyone’s interested, I’m sure Uncle Donnie would offer lessons. It’s a miracle he didn’t damage his eyes!
And that’s it for my first column. I hope it wasn’t too lame or something. I’ll work on it and try to make next months better. Just bare with me while I try to get my routine worked out. Love to all!
